La epilepsia es una enfermedad cerebral generada por la descarga anormal y exagerada de impulsos eléctricos de algunas neuronas del sistema nervioso central, lo cual lleva a una crisis epiléptica.

Las crisis epilépticas tienen diferentes síntomas dependiendo de la parte del cerebro en que se originen, y pueden ser súbitas e inesperadas, por lo que en caso de que alguien las presente, deben seguirse algunas recomendaciones con objeto de evitar que la persona que las sufre llegue a lastimarse.

Es importante conservar la calma y permanecer con el enfermo hasta su recuperación de la crisis sin tratar de sujetarlo, para no ocasionarle lesiones, y por supuesto acudir con el médico especialista para un tratamiento y seguimiento oportuno.
